On September 18, 2025, with markets still buzzing after the Fed’s historic decision, the message for businesses is clear: seize the opportunity of cheap capital with OPEX discipline – focus on quality, manage risks, and address bottlenecks. This is how financial news can be turned into strategic advantage.
1. Breaking News: Fed Cuts Rates for the First Time in 2025
On September 17, 2025, the U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) announced a 0.25 percentage point cut to its benchmark interest rate, lowering it from 4.25%–4.50% to 4.00%–4.25% [Reuters]. This was the first cut since late 2023.
Key reasons: The U.S. labor market is showing signs of cooling, with the 3-month average of new jobs dropping to ~120,000/month, far below the 250,000/month seen in 2022 [WSJ].
GDP growth: Q2 2025 came in at just 1.3% year-on-year, compared to 2.6% in 2024 [Bloomberg].
Inflation: Still around 3.2% (August 2025 CPI), higher than the 2% target but no longer “hot” like in 2022–2023 [CNBC].
Market reactions:
U.S. equities rallied: S&P 500 +1.8%, Nasdaq +2.3% immediately after the news.
10-year Treasury yields fell from 4.1% to 3.9%.
The U.S. dollar weakened against the euro and the Japanese yen [Bloomberg].
→ Once again, the Fed has “unlocked” cheaper capital, creating opportunities for businesses. But history shows: every opportunity comes with hidden traps.
